Q: What are the fees for using handsfree.ly call recording?

On purchasing the handsfree.ly call Recording product, the user is permitted 3 calls to be recorded. Each recording can be of any length upto an hour long. When the user has exhausted these 3 recordings, he/she can purchase a single recording for an additional $0.99. He/she can also purchase a combo pack of 3 or 5 recordings.

Q: Verizon (CDMA) phones cannot record ongoing calls. Why?

AT&T uses a GSM network. Verizon uses CDMA. The differences between the two networks are described in these two Apple documents:
iPhone: Understanding phone features
iphone User Guide
(search for cdma)
You cannot merge a second incoming call (from the recorder) if you are on a CDMA network. What it means to you on a CDMA network only is you will have to start the recorder before dialing a call that you want recorded. Only on CDMA networks, you cannot record an already started ongoing call. You do not have any restrictions on GSM networks (supported by most carriers worldwide).

Q: Does handsfree.ly store my call and audio recordings?

Yes-all audio and call recordings are stored securely on handsfree.ly servers. Links to these recordings are emailed to the user's registered email address. These links can be posted on blogs or stored in itunes. Your recordings are available for a period of 3 months from the recording date. At the end of the 3 month period, it will be replaced by a message stating that the recording is unavailable.
If links to recordings are emailed by handsfree.ly on request by users, these links and their contents are deleted 7 days after the email is sent. So, please download the recordings to your PC/Mac/laptop as soon as possible. This 7-day limit only applies to recordings explicitly emailed to users upon their manual request.

Q: Why should I pay for recordings? Shouldn't call recordings be free on the iPhone?

The recorder accesses your phone via a regular telephone call. handsfree.ly pays a per-minute charge for this access. We do not track the number of minutes you use per recording. But on a monthly basis, we offset the total cost of all calls the recorder makes with the fees charged to all the users. We hope the convenience of a monthly subscription is appealing to our power users.

Q: How do you pay for recordings?

Please refer to this guide for a quick summary of payment options.

Q: What are the advantages of a combo pack for call recordings?

With a combo pack purchase, the user can avoid entering any itunes purchasing information on every recording. handsfree.ly tracks the balance recordings available and saves the user time (to initiate a recording)

Q: Is there a guide to adding/merging calls and conference calling for the iPhone?

Please refer to this Apple guide for details on adding and merging calls.

Q: How can I access my recordings?

All call recordings are stored on the originating device in a folder called "handsfree.ly Recorded Calls". All audio recordings are stored in user created folders with user supplied recording names. When you choose a recording, there is a ">" sign to the right of the recording. Clicking this takes you to the email view where you can enter additional email address. Clicking Done send a link to this recording to all the email addresses you choose.

Q: How can I save my recordings on my computer?

Look at the email we send you with the link to your recording. You can right-click on the link and in most browsers (esp. IE and Mozilla), you can choose the "Save link as..." option. On MACs, this guide will help. Save the file with a .mp3 name. You can now access the recording on your computer. Please remember that handsfree.ly Terms Of Service guarantee the online recordings will be available for a maximum of 3 months only from the date of recording.
